Welcome to my website. Herein, as you read through the various pages of the site, you will be met with troubling facts and details regarding the abbysmal working conditions suffered by Canadian labourers, from the late 19th to early 20th centuries, you will read about the endeavours of brave and influential figures/organizations in combating these conditions, and you will be given an insight into an incredibly dark period in Canadian history. From the close of the 19th century to the commencement of World War II, this period was punctuated by strikes and uprisings amongst members of the working-class -- attempts at achieving decent wages and work conditions, from employers and the federal government.
Details of these uprisings, both succesful e.g. the On to Ottawa Trek of 1935, and failed e.g. the Fraser River Railway Strikes of 1912, are featured within this website, accompanied by much contextual detail. By the time that you are finished going through my website, I hope that you will have gleaned something regarding this turbulent half-decade. Thank you, and enjoy.
